Well, yeah, it's been awhile. oops. Anyways, i've been meaning to do this for awhile so i am going to do it before i get lazy again...
As a graphic designer, i've been told again and again, it is really important to know what is out there as far as design, art, culture, influence. everything! it's not useful to just know about things that you like, you need to know about things you don't like too..or things that you might not normally think about. So...in light of that, i've decided to dedicate this blog to all things design. This means, i will profile a designer in each entry. designer can mean graphic, interior, architect, photographer, painter, sculptor, musician...all things design. feel free to suggest any of these types people that you respect and admire.
SO...
to start off, in light of the fact that he will be in SF next week. I will be profiling the ever famous graphic designer, Stefan Sagmeister.
Stefan Sagmeister was born in Austria in 1962. He currently resides in New York and is one of today’s most well-known graphic designers.
He may be most famous for having words carved into his torso all for the sake of design. When Sagmeister was asked to design the poster for an AIGA lecture he was giving on the campus at Cranbrook near Detroit, he asked his assistant to carve the details on to his torso with an X-acto knife and used the result to create the poster.
He has also created many posters, some controversial including a poster depicting a traditional Cantonese image featuring four bare male bottoms. Some ad agencies boycotted the awards in protest and the Hong Kong newspapers received numerous letters of complaint.
In 2001 Sagmeister published his book Sagmeister, sub-titled Made You Look with the sub-sub-title Another self-indulgent design monograph (practically everything we have ever designed including the bad stuff.)
